Workplace Relations
H&M has been experiencing a high rate of growth for many years, and we have never had as many employees as we have now. This growth, combined with the fact that our employees are scattered worldwide, places even greater demands on H&M as an employer.
H&M's goal is to be an excellent employer, even in those countries whose laws and regulations do not live up to our requirements. A fundamental respect for the individual should be the hallmark of our entire operation. This philosophy applies to everything from fair wages, working hours and freedom of association to the opportunity to grow and develop within the company.
At H&M, we apply the open door principle, which gives every employee the right and opportunity to discuss work-related issues directly with management. Of course, we also defend our employees' right and ability to organize, as well as to decide who should represent them at the workplace.
H&M has positive experiences from open, constructive dialogues with labor unions and welcomes such relationships wherever we operate. Cooperation is a "given" if we are to improve even more. Examples of our cooperative efforts in employee matters include our agreement with UNI (Union Network International), and the work we carry out in collaboration with the EWC (European Works Council). You can read more about our employees and workplace relations in our CSR report.
