I always love a good denim jacket, but springtime is when I find myself especially appreciating this classic piece. It is perfect for those not-so-cold yet not-so-warm days.

Fashion blogger and vintage lover Bonnie Barton chronicles her day-to-day life in New York City on her blog Flashes of Style, which she started in 2009. Since then she has shared her dreamy personal style and vintage finds with the world. “I'm constantly curious,” she told us. “I try to always find the beauty in everything, and to ensure that every day is an adventure.” Read on for her favourites below.
In days gone by, they were the easiest way to pledge allegiance to your favourite band, but now the humble rock t-shirt has become an essential part of the wardrobes of many fashionistas, as we found out on the streets.
It can be so easy to get lost in the girly world of style trends, and what better way to kick it up a notch than to work your favourite rock ‘n’ roll tee into a fashionable look? A faded band logo on a soft black t-shirt has the ideal edge to toughen up a flirty tropical print or a cute miniskirt, like we spotted. It's also the stylish way to dress down a pretty outfit while still hanging on to your cool credentials. The best styling tip here? Mixing your rock tee with some jewellery, whether a big and bulky statement necklace or else a fine pendant and some delicate earrings.

1. Cropped cool
Cropped suit trousers go a long way when paired with a rough and ready white tee. Simple style made edgy.
2. Clean and fresh
The right accessories give this athletic look a masculine charm: box-fresh white sneakers make sure these tailored separates are ready to hit the street.
3. Breezy blazer
How to smarten up your trusty warm-up wear? Try a light blazer over a hoody and track shorts for a rugged take on minimal athletic style.
4. White out
All white is the way forward for a brighter version of masculine basics. Shorts that graze the top of the knee sit perfectly with a fresh, crisp shirt.

East meets West in our Ways to Wear It shoot, inspired by both the soft feminine styles of Japan as well as rock ‘n’ roll and vintage chic from the archives, too. We asked our stylist Amanda Johansson about how these looks came together and how to get the look for yourself!
What was your inspiration for the shoot?
My inspiration for this shoot was both Asia, and also a touch of the rock ’n’ roll girl, like the Olsen twins and Courtney Love. Plus, the Dries Van Noten S/S 2013 show, with all those patterns and fluid fabrics!
Who is the woman who you see wearing this?
The woman I see in this kind of look is a woman with self-confidence. She is feminine and she loves music and travelling. She’ll mix high fashion with a lot of vintage, too.
What is your favourite piece here?
My favourite piece for this look is a thin shirt that feels as if it has been washed a lot. Also I loved all the pieces that look like old vintage lingerie, like the vest and the kimono with that wonderful lace.
What’s your best styling tip for getting this look?
Wear a thin vintage nightdress as a dress and mix it with a big wool cardigan and a feminine shoe. It’s super-sexy with that “I just got out of bed” look.

Summer weather can make us all a bit stir-crazy. During the longest, hottest days of the year, why not shake it up a little, and look to more eccentric style icons for inspiration? The first port of call: Baz Luhrmann’s summer blockbuster The Great Gatsby, for that all-important dose of 1920s flapper glamour. This is the season of drinks on the deck, and garden parties that last well into the evening, so take inspiration from summer weddings, with floral crowns and flowing skirts.
For a modern take on summer bohemia, consider Brooklyn jewellery designer Pamela Love’s wild locks, Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes and her pagan chic,
as well as Erin Wasson’s Texan-meets-surfer girl style. These offbeat references are spot-on for bright days and warm nights: think loose, undone wavy hair, denim cut-offs, vintage silks and feather hair accessories. This is a look for the free spirit spending a hot summer in the city.
For wild male summer style, look no further than South Korean superstar G-Dragon, one of the members of K-Pop boy band Big Bang. His all-in assault on quiet clothes will rock any beach, festival or city, thanks to garish colours, spacey accessories and a fun attitude. What more could you wish for this season?

Street style icon and editor Miroslava Duma dressed up a sporty grey sweatshirt with a tailored flared skirt at Paris Fashion Week.
We often hear about ways to dress up your athletic separates, but here's a real example on Russian style star Miroslava Duma. She has mixed an on-trend grey sweatshirt with an eye-catching flared skirt in a vibrant print for maximum impact. To ensure that a look like this is definitely more suited to a fashion show than a running track, Miroslava's gone for some towering black platform heels with that current street style favourite addition, the little white pop sock.

Once upon a time, denim was the preserve of weekend wear and the occasional casual Friday. It was the sartorial symbol of the gentleman on his day off, relaxing in a pair of well-worn blue jeans. But now denim is getting a sharp makeover, starting with the old ‘Texas tuxedo’ cliché of a cowboy’s denim jacket and worn-out jeans.
This is double denim like you’ve never seen it before – think crisper, cleaner denim separates for an alternative to the tired suit and tie. Just look to Junya Watanabe and Versace, who both worked the fabric into smartly cut suits and tailoring this season.
Designers also worked the iconic American fabric into modern styles and patterns, giving it a new lease of life for summer. At Qasimi Homme, it was finished with a metallic sheen for a slick, urban feel, while Tommy Hilfiger gave it his usual preppy twist, pairing denim shirts with crested blazers.
Then there was denim with a youthful feel. While a stonewash can be synonymous with the grungy 1990s,
in the form of a well-pressed button-up shirt (tucked into your jeans, if you like) it can be
a fresh and striking look for the adventurous man in search of an update for his much-loved blue jeans. However you like your denim, dress it up and you will do no wrong.

Celia Burton, make-up artist: “A beautiful fresh face, barely anything on the eye and a fluoro lip. Take reference from Holly Fulton's S/S 2013 show or Dries Van Noten's. For colours – look at YSL's new Rouge Volupté Shine range. Bright and full of pigment, the lipstick itself is moisturising, super-easy to apply and leaves the lips smooth and plump. Yum!”
