Every year, tons of textiles end up in landfills. But as much as 95% of these textiles and clothes could be used again. That’s why we are now collecting clothes and home textiles of any brand, in any quality and any condition in our stores.

So if you’ve got something worn, torn or hopelessly out of style – don’t throw it away or let it pile up in the back of your closet. Bring it to us and help decrease the amount of fashion being wasted. Bring your unwanted clothes to selected H&M stores. For each bag of clothes and home textiles you hand in, you will receive a voucher with a discount for your next purchase.

Your textiles are sent with our usual deliveries to the nearest processing plant. The clothes are then graded and hand-sorted. Zero waste is the goal. Items that are too worn and torn to be reused will be recycled and turned into raw materials and new products.

How it works:

Clothing that can be worn again is marketed worldwide as second-hand goods.

Textiles that can’t be reused get a new chance as textile fibres, or are used to manufacture products such as damping and insulating materials for the auto industry.

When rewear, reuse and recycle are not options, textiles are used to produce energy.

Textiles that are no longer suitable to wear are converted into other products, such as cleaning cloths.

Why is H&M doing this?

We want to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry by limiting the amount of waste ending up in landfills.

Will you only accept H&M garments?

Of course not. Any piece of clothing or home textile, of any brand, and in any condition is welcome.

What can I hand in?

Any clothing and home textiles.

Is there a limit for how much I can hand in and do I get a reward?

There’s no limit on how many bags of clothing and home textiles you can hand in. For every bag you hand over you’ll receive one voucher, with a maximum of two vouchers per exchange (vouchers redeemable on your next purchase).

Does H&M profit from the returned garments?

Our revenues will be used to reward our customers, to make donations to local charity organizations and to invest in recycling innovation.

What is H&M CharityStar?

For each kilogram of clothes that we collect, 0.02 Euro will be donated to a local charity organization chosen by H&M. To find out more about the amount of clothing collected and the money donated, as well as the local charity selected for your country visit: %3Ca%20href=%22
